What We Do

BHPN focuses on advocacy and policy research to homebuyer education and real estate development to improve affordable and sustainable housing opportunities. We understand that the Black community is too often forced to accept very limited quality and affordable housing options.

Affordable Housing Working Group

The BHPN Affordable Housing Working Group focuses on expanding single and multi-family housing in key markets in the U.S. and beyond. Creating more not-for-profit and for-profit developers of single and multi-family housing that is Black-owned or led are also priorities. We also make recommendations on local, state, and federal policies that help advance affordable housing in Black communities domestically and internationally.

Lending Roundtable

BHPN hosts regular meetings with some of the top mortgage lenders in the U.S., make the policy recommendations and develop shared strategies to increase the rate of Black homeownership and access to affordable housing for seniors and families.

Green Housing Development & Training Program

BHPN understands the importance of reducing the energy burden for Black renters and homeowners. Additionally, growing the knowledge base for Black real estate professionals, developers and lenders of all races will help lessen the burden of environmental pollution in black communities. In the long term this will help improve health conditions and lower energy costs for Black families.

Black Homeownership Black Wealth Campaign (BHBWC)

BHPN is leading a nation-wide marketing and consumer education initiative to close the 30-point gap in homeownership in the U.S. This campaign includes outreach events, homebuyer fairs, workshops, partnerships with community organizations, financial institutions, and various media related initiatives to connect with potential homeowners.

Help 4 A Home

Our down payment & closing cost assistance program provides grants for homebuyers to assist with the purchasing of their first home. All participants must participate in a HUD approved homebuyer class. Rising home prices are a barrier to homeownership and one of the biggest challenges to homeownership is saving for a down payment.

Annual Report on Black Housing Trends

Our annual report examines the trends in affordable housing, homeownership, mortgage lending, housing grants and incentives. In addition, it analyzes the demographic and population shifts across the country and provides solutions and best practices for industry professionals, advocates and policy makers.
